Never thought I would own another synthetic stock or pump shotgun, but a new model fell into my lap this year. I’m usually skeptical about low-cost firearms, but the Stevens 320 performed well on turkeys this spring - turkey hunting being one of the main reasons I kept the gun. More info is available in my review of the Stevens 320 pump (link in profile).
A basket-rack three-point in velvet was a lucky but unfortunate find this day in the grouse woods. It likely died from epizootic hemorrhagic disease like many other whitetails in eastern Washington and northern Idaho last fall. It held to the back of my vest as Finn and I went on to flush a wad of grouse, adding two to the vest to round out the morning.
I think Zeta surprised herself with how much she enjoyed fetching quail in the snow this past January. Hopefully we can have that skill honed for all situations by September.
Yuba and I had a fine few days with the @harvestingnature crew last week, @adventures_for_food, @caseynordine, Collin Gruin, Adam Steele, and @wildgameandfish at the @backcountryhunters rendezvous! We met some great people and sampled excellent food.
Yuba and I are hanging out with the @harvestingnature crew this weekend at The @backcountryhunters rendezvous! If you are at the rendezvous, be sure to visit the Harvesting Nature team!
Spent some time showing my young birds around the barn and teaching them that the trap door is the entrance. Next step is to put ‘em in a launcher and work the dogs. Maybe they find their way back in and maybe they don’t 🤷‍♂️
